And a Good Friday to you all.

 

For those not Catholic, Good Friday is the Friday preceding Easter Sunday. It is the remembrance of the anniversary of the crucifixion of Christ.

 

So, this morning, I am at work and a young volunteer, a high-school girl named Jessica, asked me, "why do they call it Good Friday when it celebrates something bad?"

 

I thought that to be a reasonable question and, being me, I immediately looked it up for her. I found that there is no definitive answer to the question, likely it stems from English bastardization of language, but there is a somewhat plausable explanation from The Catholic Encylopedia. 

 

Go forth and celebrate this "Great and Holy" day. Or just don't eat meat.
