Fall TV Postview
tvI was reading Kelly's blog today and one of the things she "supposedly" learned last week was that she loves fall tv. I find this hard to believe because she's almost 31 years old, so how could this be a revelation; though the fact that she previously blogged about the new Melrose Place makes me doubt that she realized this only last week. Doesn't matter, really, the point is that it made me realize that after blogging about the tv I was so excited about for fall, I never followed up.
Ta-da! That's today's edition. Let's start with the staples. First off, Supernatural. I was so unbelievably excited for this premiere and I was a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it was an incredible premiere episode and it raised more questions than it answered, setting up the rest of the season. I guess it is just that last year's premiere was one of the best I've EVER seen (on any show) and last season was SO amazing that it would have been hard to live up to that. My expectations were pretty high for this one, and I sat through the episode thinking it was like a B or B-...right up until the last two minutes which were so good they bumped it up to a solid A-.
And that was just episode 1. The second episode reminded me of days gone by (previous episodes) and then ended with a shocker. Episode three was so different from anything they've done before...this show keeps getting better and better! I seriously can't believe that more people don't watch this show.
Okay, let's talk about my other staple, Criminal Minds. This was another long-awaited premiere, because they put the life of one of the main characters in jeopardy at the end of last season. While I was relatively certain they wouldn't kill him off, I was curious to see what would happen. Turns out, this was one of the lamest episodes they've ever had. I was so disappointed. This wasn't even the natural fall off from anticipation, this was just a bad episode. There was no drama, no suspense, not even real emotion. It felt very disjointed and, I don't know, not that good. I have high hopes for the rest of the season, because it is just that good of a show, let's hope it is just a slow start.
Next? Well, there's Glee. This one caught me through interesting marketing. They filmed the premiere last year and showed it at the end of last season, so people could get a sneak peek of one of fall's new shows. I thought it was a brilliant strategy and it seemed to work. At least it got me to watch it. And it was pretty good. So I checked it out this fall and its a good show. It is unlike anything else on television and I guess it would be a comedy, it sure cracks me up! Let me just say that the "Acafellas" nearly made me wet myself.
And, finally, my most anticipated show of the fall: Eastwick. I reported earlier that this looked good to me for the simple fact that it features Paul Gross. I love him. I have seen a ridiculous amount of things that he's been in and this is unlike anything he's done before. He was charming and rakish and the total bad boy, yet completely likeable. Plus, he just turned 50 years old and he still looks so damn good. I was crazy about him on this show. And the show itself is much better than the preview hinted at. It has a kind of awkward, sarcastic, humor that fits the style of the show perfectly and makes it seem like it is funny without trying to be. I really liked it. Now, I just need enough other people to like it so that the networks won't cancel it and I can get my weekly Paul Gross fix.
I'll be on a euphoric high until spring if that truly does happen. (Yikes [or as they said in the 50s, Yikes Stripes], imagine the summer withdrawal!)
There you have it. Everyone should be watching Supernatural, (netflix, blockbuster, whatever you use....get it!) Criminal Minds will rebound, Glee is pretty good, and I still love Paul Gross.
